Michael Young and Jack Hustwitt both apprentices here at K Home International (KHI) began their office-based training last summer. They have both proudly reached their first milestone of their apprenticeship and achieved their BTEC Level 3 Diploma. We spoke with Michael and Jack to how their apprenticeship is going."I'm really enjoying my apprenticeship so far, it has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience working closely with some fantastic colleagues throughout the company. Learning new things and meeting new people along the way. Due to KHI being a family ran company, I feel as an apprentice I am more valued. I am working close with lead engineers and managers, who can give me the guidance I need to progress in my future." said Michael.Jack said "My apprenticeship is going really well with colleagues and managers being very supportive and providing me in-house training. So far I have learnt a lot of important information on designing structures and suitable foundations with the design team. I have also been given the opportunity to attend site so that I could see for myself the areas of the plant which I helped model."Michael and Jack completed a rotation around the different disciplines KHI has to offer, this allowed them to choose which discipline they wish to pursue, but also how the multi-discipline engineering is integrated on a large project. The experience the apprentices have gained so far within the design office is knowledge on 2D and 3D drafting software packages such as AutoCAD, Revit and MultiSTEEL.Michael and Jack's aspirations for the future are to be fully qualified Civil Designers, this process has already started as they have commenced their HNC in Civil Engineering at Teesside University, which will be two years of study. When they achieve this level, they will be fully-qualified Civil Designers.Andrew Harris, Process Engineering & Apprentice Manager for KHI said "Congratulations to Jack and Michael on passing their BTEC qualifications. Both have began their careers in the civil and structural department and are off to a good start. Upon completion of their apprenticeships I am sure they will become excellent civil designers."
